Outlook running multiple instances

Outlook is shown to be running 2 or more times. It appears that when it locks up, which occurs if I try to send an email while the VPN is disconnected, and I close Outlook, it doesn?t really close. If I try to open Outlook after that it won?t open and adds one to the list of processes. If I select the right one of the Outlooks & ?End Process?, Outlook will open. Sometimes I have found several open & I close each until Outlook opens or ?End Process? on all of them and then open Outlook normally.
