Outlook & the internet mail

By Andy_Ruff ·
I have Outlook 2000 set to work in a workgrup. I also set the service "internet mail". Outlook 2000 downloads regularly all the incoming mails, but it don't want to connect the smpt server, so i have to use outlook express to send e-mails. May i useonly Outlook 2000 to receive and send internet mail and Microsoft Mail?
Thanks everybody for your help.

It sounds as though you have a configuration problem. In Outlook Express click on Tools / Accounts and highlight the mail account you are using there and click Properties. On the server tab note the SMTP information. At the bottom of that window do you have a check mark in the outgoing mail section "My server requires authentication"? Now open Outlook. If you have the Corporate version Click Tools / Services. If you have the Internet Version Click Tools / Accounts. Highlight your mail service and go to Properties and on the Server tab, duplicate the information you had in OE regarding SMTP.

Hey Andy, First I have a pretty simple solution that might work. In Outlook 2000 go to Tools > Options > Mail Delivery and make sure that "Send messages immediately when connected" is checked.
My second possible solution is to change your Outlook install from Corporate/Workgroup to Internet Only. To do this go to, Tools > Options > Mail Delivery > Reconfigure mail support. Select the Internet Only option and click next. It will ask you if you are sure you want to make the change and tell you that Outlook will need to be restarted for the change to take place, click yes. Once you restart Outlook you might find that a few little problems have gone away. This, of course, will only work if you use internet mail only, not if you are connecting to an Exchange server.
I would like to know if this has helped you at all, would you let me know? Good Luck!
