    OWA access error

    Locked

    by rggrimes ·

I’m running MSExchange 5.5 on a Win 2k server with IIS 5.0 installed. If the server has been re-started OWA can be accessed one time. But the next time someone tries to access it, the Logon screen comes up, you can put in the login info and it seems to be trying to find the server and eventually reports back the page cannot be displayed.
I really need to upgrade Exchange, but I am hesitant to do so with the server having errors. Any ideas?

      Upgrade NOW!

OWA with Exchange 5.5 had a number of problems, not the least of which was needing to have certain ports open on your router, etc. etc. There were also a number of configuration issues with logons and permissions that required endless troubleshooting. I ran it myself back in the dark ages (oh, say, 4 or 5 years ago) successfully but I wouldn’t wish the job on anyone else. Go ahead and upgrade and your problems will miraculously disappear. I would, however, STRONGLY recommend not upgrading in place. If you possibly can, either completely remove Exchange 5.5 first and then reinstall, or better yet, get a new server and do a clean install of Exchange 2k3 on that server. You can run the two together for a short time if necessary (be sure you read articles from the MS Knowledgebase beforehand on how to do this).

Hope this helped and Good Luck!
