OWA - URL

By CGriffith318 ·
We have just setup OWA. Right now users have to put in http://192.168.254.xxx/exchange (just an example), we would like it so that they can just type in http://mail.companyname.com (example). Could someone explain how to do this? Also, we are going to change it to SSL so would it be done the same way again?

Thanks
charlene

Set up an internal DNS server that hosts the COMPANY.COM domain (as an example).
You then would build an A record (called a HOST record in Win2K DNS), that points MAIL to 192.168.254

And your user machines would need to be configured to use the IP address of the server that is running DNS. Then the user machines would make DNS queries to resolve MAIL.COMPANY.COM to 192.168.254.

hope this helps

We already have internal DNS setup but it is not setup with our external domain name (example: company.com). It uses or internal domain(example:company.local). So if I make an A record that points mail to 192.168.254 that will point it to mail.company.local. Correct?

We have figured out how to get it to go to mail.company.com/exchange now, by creating a virtual directory. But we cannot figure out how to drop the /exchange. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have fixed it. I created a virtual directory under the default website named mail.company.com then I went to the Default Website Permissions and chose redirect to directory below and typed in /exchange.

Thanks for the suggestions but I have it fixed.
