.pab files are your personal address book, if you run exchange then any contacts are usualy held on the exchange server - but you can add them to your address book and vice versa. very useful if users spend time off line - or wish to leave/join and have all thier contacts intact. very important to keep a backup if used.

.pst Personal folder - can be configured to accept your incoming mail off the server and important info including contacts, journal, notes, inbox and sent items. Can be come very unwieldy, do not permit to go over 500MB as it is pron to corruption if to large. Ensure this is backed up.

These are configured under TOOLS-SERVICES

.ost file - Offline security - will exist if replication is required, ie items automatically copied from exchange server to .pst file at logoff

By default all are created in the users personal data directory (different depending on O/S and where you decided it to be!)

obviously there are executable and .dll files etc but these are the ones to be wary of - and not to delete unlesss you are 146% sure they are no longer required. The ost file can be deleted if user is connected to network and outlook not running - as soon as they start outlook it will be recreated.

The online help in outlook will describe thier use aswell
