Try connecting the laptop to a monitor to see if the video card is working

Load a Startup disk in floppy drive and boot system, type in system c: and then let process complete and reboot system

If this does not work then you may want to let a tech look at the LCD

If you have a flashing cursor in the upper left side of the screen, then your LCD is probably fine.

Do you hear the hdd or have any indicator lights indicating activity on the hdd? Did you hear any clicking or slipping sounds from the hdd prior to the changes with Partition Magic? Which OSes are you using? What is the Boot OS?

When you tried to update the BIOS and "nothing happened" -- did you update it or not. Generally this is done with a bootable floppy and you get to a point where the Upgrade BIOS floppy will give you the current BIOS info and then at least the date of the new BIOS versus the old. Did you see that? If nothing happened, then the BIOS may be shot or the systemboard.

How old is the laptop and who's the manufacturer? You may need to take it to an authorized repair center.

If you are using WIn2000 or WinNT as your boot OS and you changed your partitions, then the OS may not have the correct path to load the OS. Or your hdd may have crashed.

See if you can boot with a boot disk for Win98 or 95. See if you can access the hdd at all.

Humm, such is the luck with using 3rd party partitioning software. Did the machine turn off or power off while the partitioning process [or whatever you were doing] was taking place? If it did, you'll have to boot with the emergency boot disks you created with Partition magic in case a power outage occured. Only after competing what it's doing and you exit the program does it rewrite it to the original MBR settings. It does this in case you want to install an O/S using partition magic].

- What OS is installed on your computer?
- What File System are you using on this Computer? Did you convert the file system with PM?
- What partition changes did you make with the PM software?

I really like Partition Magic, there are occasions where it is very useful.

On a side note..I once was using Partition Magic on a classroom full of computers, when an absent-minded IT student, against instructions to not touch the computers during this process, resized a boot partition downto 8 Megabytes. He made the changes, then apparently when a fellow student inquired, "what are you doing" attempted to expand the partition, as if to save the operating system, which he'd already destroyed.
