I have Just install a new 1000 GB SATA harddrive on my system Pentuim (R) D 3 GHz with 1 GB of Ram. It has Windows media edition 2002, service pack 2 . My goal is to make my sytem more efficient, reliable and less risky to data loss due to harddrive corruption. System: Sony VAIO VRC-RC110G. My solution is to make my existing 226 GB harddrive my primary drive (master) and just run Windows XP and some of the programs that came with the system (I have already deleted more than have of those programs through the control panal add and remove software). The SATA drive I have installed and labled slave drive. I want to use this to install all of my program Microsoft Office, PDF readers and writers, dragon Naturally speaken, Itunes, etc. and all of my data files including downloads. Will creating partitions make my system more efficient? Is the Master slave approach a good solution or I am I better of buying another 1000 GB hard drive and creating a level 1 raid array? Consider that there is a time and money trade off because I have a literature review deadline of November 30, 2009 and I cannot afford to hire the tech expert right now? Desperatly seeking feedback.
