Question

Locked

Password

By ar112 ·
Someone gave me a computer running Windows 2000. It is a "Kenitec" Norcent (that is what the front of the harddrive says). I cannot get on the computer at all. It asks for a password to even get through setup. I would like to reformat the harddrive, but I can't get pass the password. then I try passwords and on the 3rd attempt it says system disabled. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like

the previous owner had the CMOS password enabled. Open the case, remove the CMOS battery, unplug the computer and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Replace the battery, plug it in and you should be good to go.

CMOS Jumper

by support In reply to Password

Look for a Green or Red Jumper near the CMOS battery.

Jumper will have 2 pins connected to it and another pin right beside it. Move the jumper to Pin 2 and 3 and power up the system and shut it down.

Change the jumper back to pin 1 and 2 and your done.
