    Password Questions

    Locked

    by kahunanui ·

Had questions on Win95 passwords. Please note the scenario:

    W95 OSR2.1 [Win95B] PEER to PEER network.
Share level access. When accessing a password protected drive or other resources, the default is “Save this password in your password list” and you must clear this box each time. Is there a way to change the default to NOT offer to save your passwords to the list, or better yet, remove this option?

After someone has mistakenly saved a password to the list, from that time onanyone using that machine can access
the resources without entering a password. Is there any way you can remove it or change it back so it will again prompt for the password? Seems like it would be a registry entry or something.

You can disable password caching by editing the Registry:
1)Type REGEDIT in the Run dialog box
      2)Go to the following location
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network
3)Right-click in the right pane and choose New,then choose DWORD Value
4)When the new value appears, rename it DisablePwdCaching and press enter
Double-click the new entry and type 1 in the Value data field
      Hope this helps

        Thank you very much!

Doesn’t disabling password caching in the System Policy Ed. do the same thing? We could not get that to work.
