You need to do a...

Repair to get your computer running better, put in your windows disk and (do not worry because you will be able to select the repair option) then select "repair" or in your case if would be select "R", from here it will repair itself, when it is finished you will be able to use your computer. If you still can not get in (still doing the same black screen thing) then check your graphics card, take it out and replace it.

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.

Really P.T?

by tintoman In reply to You need to do a...

Heavan knows I try not to be critical of others on here but I am really bemused by your answer to this.

"put in your windows disk and (do not worry because you will be able to select the repair option)"
At what point would you suggest putting the disk in?
When is the option to repair going to appear?
*from here it will repair itself"
will it? how do you know this? what if this is a hardware issue or 3rd party software causing the resatrt? in this case repairing windows won't help at all will it?

"when it is finished you will be able to use your computer"
"check your graphics card, take it out and replace it"
That's some talent you have there

Computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP

Try this first

To resolve this issue, remove the media in your CD, DVD, or floppy drive and then restart the computer.
