I am working as a service level manager for a mobile telecomms company (approx 3,000 employees), and have been asked to create a PC Policy that should specifically determine who should get a Laptop and who should gets a desktop. As you might imagine this has turned into quite a political debate, with many interested parties and pressure groups.
I am interested in finding out from any tech republic members who have experiences in this area, and am also looking for some answers on the following broad questions:-
* Do you have a PC policy?
* How do you decide who gets a desktop / laptop?
* Who has budget responsibility?
* Do you have any escalation procedures for unhappy users?
* Do you allow personal use?
* Do you allow connection of personal devices (e.g PDA, memory sticks etc)?
* Do you try and enforce a “1 PC” policy. i.e control the ration of PC / people?
