PC reboot

By R_Carrison ·
i have a HP Pavillion running XP and if I put a blank CD in it or a CD with any file that is not an executable, it will reboot over and over and over, but if i put an executable file in, like a game, it will not reboot but instead will act normally. Any ideas?

Wasn't it called Starforce or something...

That used to cause those exact symptoms. Usually inflicted on poor European users.

Try following these steps to check if your infected with starforce.

Over and over.. OK, if you leave the CD in, does XP reload..

.. and then reboot? Or does the reboot sequence start right away? (before the win logo)

A CD with an .exe file on it will likely cause the CD to spin-up to data read speed, rather than an audio CD that will not cause excess motor current usage. Your power supply may be failing..
