PC slowdown using DSL connection Win ME

By paulbrenda8 ·
Since having a DSL connection I find that having IE6 open all day causes a progressive slowdown in PC response with typically 30 sec delay on clicking mouse. The PC appears to freeze for this length of time then responds, all clears on reboot. I have seen this fault reported on a number of sites but no satisfactory solution Even Microsoft did not solve it for one guy. Any answers ??

Get rid of IE and try Firefox. NO garbage collected, exploits, ads etc. MUCH faster than IE and easier to use due to the extra tools you can add for free.

Run a scan for malware and viruses. Moving to FireFox browser might be a good idea, if this system is prone to being 'wared.

the root is the ie cache, with ie being so integrated into windows it's creating huge temp files directories.

try making it so ie doesn't use cached sites, and limit the size.

the other part is that windows itself will slow down over time until you reboot, for the same reason, the logs and temp files are sucking system resources. a reboot clears the active huge usage and goes back to smaller usage.
