Per user IE settings in 2k3 TS

By davidr ·
We need to be able to grant/deny internet access on a per user/connection setting within terminal services on Window 2k3 server. There are 3rd party software solutions available but does anyone know of a way within 2k3 to do this?

Well since you have to log in as the user initially when setting up their settings I would recommend that you setup a bogus proxy server in the LAN settings of Internet Explorer. Then use group policy to turn off access to these settings on the server to regular users.

There is a check box in proxy settings that allows users to bypass the proxy server for local (same subnet) sites like your intranet. So the won't be able to get to the internet but they can get to intranet sites.

The other option is to move users in active directory that you do not want to have internet access to another OU and set a different policy centrally.

Dont need group policy to block access to the internet. You can lock this down in the local policy of the terminal server. No need for AD.

After reading answer 1 I wanted to add that we are not currently running AD. We are migrating next month so we may just have to wait until then unless someone knows a way without using group policy
