    Perfmon Logging…

    Locked

    by dlm ·

This should be fairly easy one to answer…
I recently got ‘slingshotted’ into a Net Admin position handeling the little ISP service our company offers. For the last two days, I have come in to find the inetinfo.exe file ‘crashed’ and shut down. I attempted to create a log file last night, but am unable to view the data this morning…what am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The Inetinfo.exe is the file that runs IIS services. So I would check out your Website via Start Programs Microsoft Internet, Or possibly via Option Pack, Microsoft Internet Information Services.
When you get there check the property pages, and try and Start the WWW or FTP services.

Hello. To view the contents of a log file from perfmon, it should have asked you to save or create one with a .log file extension in the root of the winnt partition. Open perfmon, go to CHART view, then open the .log file (I’m not sure which pull down menu has the open file option). Once it’s open, you can see the time line from Options >> Show time line. Move the bars around to see where your problem occurred. Good luck.

Make sure that your log file has the extension of .log with it. If it doesn’t then rename the file with the .log extension. Another thing to look at is NT Event Viewer.
