    Performance Monitor counters missing

I’m using Performance Monitor to create a baseline for all the DC’s in our domain. 2 of the BDC’s have no counters listed when I choose edit, add to chart/log/alert/report. I found an article on technet which seemed to refer to the problem – Q127207. I tested the article by renaming the perfh009.dat and the perfc009.dat files on a test server. This caused the server to exhibit the same symtoms. I then extracted perfh009.da_ and perfc009.da_ from an NT 4 Server CD and this solved the problem on the test server. When I did the same extraction on the problem servers it didn’t work and the counters were still missing – Any help here is much appreciated.

Just to be clear – both the objects and the counters are missing when I choose edit, add to chart / log / alert / report.

I’m adding an extra 1000 points to entice a soln. – I’ll gladly pay up to the person who even points me in the direction of the soln.

Assuming the files are not corrupt and have the proper permissons/ownership, it may be performance extension DLLs. Check the Application Event Log and refer to MS article Q226494. It explains the registry entries and event IDs for Perfmon. Beyondthat… I’d copy the files again, then run Chkdsk. 🙂 Hope this helps!

Sorry Boss, no Biscuit, but as you at least gave me a few more options to try I’ll throw some points in your direction!

You could try installing (or reinstalling) SNMP first as when binding it does reregister some of the associated dlls. If you rerun the SP it should reregister a few others.
      Worth a try 🙂
