to use much in the same manner as I use photobucket - upload articles, papers, poetry, etc... that I find interesting to share with family and friends, the huge bulk of whom are long distance. Editing capacity is preferred, optimally with shared editing capacity enabled at my discretion.

edit the usual

Well, in that case, you could....

...create graphics easily using a graphic editor like PhotoShop or better yet, the free Paint.NET.
By creating a new graphic and pasting text in it, you could then save them as JPGs and upload to Photobucket.
Or you could do a screen shot using a program like SnagIt and save them as JPGs.
That specially works well for simple text where you want to use a non-web font.
Using SnagIt, you can also easily add mark-up items like circles, boxes, arrows, lines, etc.

....just a thought.

But how would that affect text editability for others?

Thanks CaptBillyOneEye.

they would not be able to edit the text

That's a draw-back or a positive depending on how ya look at it.

For an editable format, OldMycroft's idea may be best. In which case, if you didn't want it to allow changes, you could upload as a PDF or a password protected doc file.

I came across this looking for SeaMonkey add-ons. Available for Mozilla and IE, dunno about Linux versions. Never tried it myself, but it allows you to clip any text/photos right out of web pages & store it. Available on-site and you can post your clips to your blog or whatever.
&Edit: If you save your own text files as html, you could probably load them into Clipmarks that way.
Then again, you could start a free blog somewhere and just post your stuff there.

Thanks seanferd. Bookmarked for further study...

Don't wanna blog - that's really rather a commitment and I don't want any more of those right now. Just share tidbits I run across with folks I think will appreciate them.
