Plant design software – model based

I’m in the petrochemical industry. We have outsourced our drawing office about 5 years ago resulting in a multitude of diverse drawing packages that we need to view from various vendors in the file based 2d environment. We have a viewer that can view 80% of our drawings in the native format. The two big players currently are Bentley and Intergraph. For the rest of drawing packages we rendition to Adobe Acrobat. This strategy is water tight for 2d. My question is how do we handle 3d based drawings? Currently our vendors use PDS and PDMS and this might change to include other vendors
