1.) Compatibility mode - Rt click on the program/shortcut in XP > Compatibility mode w/ Win98.

2.) Dual Boot - Google how to install Windows XP & Win 98 on the same drive.

3.) Virtual Machine - Download VMWare Server, install it, then create a virtual machine that runs Windows 98.

If you are running a new system, you can always install Windows 98, but I wouldn't recommend it. I would try the above steps and install Windows XP instead.

Yes it is but Win 98 has a 750 MEG Upper Limit on RAM

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to Please help

So for starters 2 GIG of RAM will not be used by 98. I seem to remember that they was a Registry Hack that would allow 98 to use more than 750 MEG but it's been so long I'm not sure what it was or how much RAM 98 could actually use. I know I used to run it with 1 GIG in the old days and I very much doubt that anyone ever tried it with 2 GIG as no M'Board from then could have supported that much RAM.

The other thing you need to look out for is 98 Drivers for your hardware most likely with 98 being so old now the newer Hardware will not have 98 Drivers so most of it will not work correctly.

But you can load 98 and only use part of it's abilities that is the parts that there are drivers for.

I have the same problem with DOS that I use in Computer Controlled Machinery but as I don't need things like Sound Drivers and so on they are just not an issue. All I actually need is Network Drivers and the Chip Set Drivers for any new M'Boards that get used I'm not sure just how much of the hardware goes unused but a lot of it does.

From the Manual

by Jacky Howe In reply to Please help

This motherboard supports Windows 32-bit XP / 32-bit Vista / 64-bit XP / 64-bit Vista Operating Systems. It doesn't support Win98.
If you require Win98 you could always run it from a Virtual environment within XP. Virtual PC 2007 or VMWare.
