Please help me make the right choice!

    by khawarhassan59 ·

I’m thinking of buying a Lenovo Legion 5 (NOT Pro) with the following specs:

    Intel® Core™ i7 processor -12700H | Alder Lake | Tetradeca-Core (3.50 GHz up to 4.70 GHz , 24 MB Smart Cache, 45 W)
    16 GB (2×8) DDR5 / 2 slots
    1 TB SSD | М.2 PCIe NVMe (2280)
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, GDDR6 – 8GB

I’m afraid I won’t be able to use those amazing specs to their max capacities because of overheating or other issues related to the fact those specs are heavily upgraded and I don’t know if the machine can handle them well under pressure. A quick research shows me cooling pads aren’t really that helpful.

I was initially interested in Legion 5 Pro but I need to sacrifice either CPU or GPU to fit within my budget. What I basically want is to play whatever I want for the next 7-8 years, if I need to lower game settings after a few years for new games it’s fine!

A few years ago, I purchased a laptop stand with built-in cooling fans underneath the computer. It did an excellent job of cooling my laptop and I think I paid about $50 or slightly more. I purchased a stand made from aluminum instead of plastic and it was solid and well-built. The stand had 4 USB connectors on the sides of it to add additional cables if needed. I think it was manufactured by Targus, but I don’t recall exactly.

I must confess that 7-8 years of use on any computer might be a stretch, I have found 4-5 years average use from my experience before having to replace a laptop.

Those computer specs. sound good. Hope that helps.

In a laptop it will NOT overheat.

It will throttle. This is not an issue or problem. It’s how the design is and should function.

I have the MSI with i9 and RTX 3070. It’s blazing fast and I see no reason to worry when it throttles.

Bro, it’s a great build, you can play with such components for about 5 years without any problems, but the cooling is not very good on the market now. I use mine to develop images, specifically raven vector, and it doesn’t need it much, but when I sit down to edit a video, it’s like a nuclear reactor at my feet, so I’m also looking for an efficient cooling system. Maybe you can give me some advice, and I hope it will work for me.
