Popup windows not being displayed

My problem is that in MS-Word 2000, the Print dialog, (or other popup dialogs) refuse to come up. Instead the task bar flashes, and I have to miniumize MS-Word so that I can see the dialog box. This happens with MS-Word on Windows 2000 and XP. I would really like to get this acting correctly again.
