Popups from **** on TR

By gralfus ·
I had just finished responding to a question on Tech Republic, hit my back arrow and got 40,000 popups with the following URL:
http://ads.com.com/mac-ad?SP=15&_RGROUP=5175&NCAT=22:6230:&CNET-BRAND-ID=9&HUB=cn&PTNR=2&LOCALE=en_US&&CNET-SITE-ID=11&ASSET_HOST=adimg.com.com&adfile=4590/11/573555_wc.ca

This has happened once before and is obviously annoying. I did a spyware scan just to make sure nothing got through, and apparently I'm ok. I had a hosts entry for blocking "ads.com.com" but didn't have one for blocking "adimg.com.com". I do now.

have you tried other spyware programs?

Spybot and adaware....Spybot might miss a few but Adaware gets most of what spybot misses, but it is not an exact science....
Good luck.....annoying to say the least.....

Yes, it isn't spyware, it's adverts

The issue wasn't spyware, it was the runaway popups from the advertizer. I was concerned that the popups had installed something, but they hadn't. I use a combination of anti-spyware tools, so that isn't the issue.

But I thought it was worth asking....everythings cool now though I hope!
