Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

By bilboatbath ·
The recent thread on UN vs US internet control was intriguing, due to the intensity of involvement of many contributors. Concerns over 'Freedom' and 'censorship' were raised by many, with others claiming that there is plenty freedom, and no censorship, in the Good Ol' US of A.

I note that the thread was terminated....

FYI, I'd be quite at ease strolling down an unknown inner-city street of an evening, in any part of France, Holland and Denmark, etc., than I would in any inner-city in the USA.

However, I'd be just as ill-at ease and hurried after dark in many British cities now, including Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, and my own - Bath.

I guess it's important that 'we, the people' keep on debating this kind of stuff loudly and vigorously - and let no-one shut us up, or down!

Why do you say it was terminated? I just looked at it.

I'm not sure what your point is. Your Subject mentions power and corruption. Your first paragraph refers to another discussion on the subject of internet control. Everything after that is a comparison of inner-city safety. Are you saying these three topics are somehow connected? If so, how?

Systemic problem???

I don't think it's the topic. I just had the same thing happen to my post on the "Cabling" discussion in the Desktops forum. One minute after I posted it, it was there. Ten minutes later it was gone. I'm wondering if there is a systemic problem.

hijaked my thread on the impending conference to debate the US giving net control/domain name/etc,over to the UN.Maybe they got rid of it because I said the UN could not agree on office paper clips? Or maybe it's a power thing?

How does controlling a bunch of name servers balkanise the internet.
I don't get it at all.

by Jaqui In reply to Never mind that

if the us government inflicts it's extremest christian beleifs on musiim or buddist peoples by killing domain names that promote these beleifs, then a name server outside us control will draw those that do beleive in these paths, as well as others that beleive the choice is up to the person.

so you get a second set of top level dns, which doesn't match the us owned dns.
