Powering A Video Card With Additional Power Supply

by patrick.gillock . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

So I recently bought an XFX GeForce 9800 GT video card which has two 4-pin connectors (or one 6-pin) and needs some-odd watts of power. I have an HP Slimline PC which doesn’t have any 4-pin connectors or much less empty space. I’m trying to find a way to power the video card using an external source of power. I connected it to my xbox for a while.. but it always shuts down after about an hour of gaming. So now i’m trying to use a power supply out of my old computer but it doesn’t provide power by just plugging it in. I’m not really experienced in electrical engineering so if I could get some help that would be great.
