PPP dials but will not authenticate as a

By beilschmidtb ·
Per suggestions in this forum I set my permissions to /dev/ttySx and /etc/ppp but still will not authenticate.
Any suggestions? I am just learning this OS and need to know what dirs and files are being accessed during a PAP dialup.

It depend havily on wich dialer you use.

For example with wvdial and SuSE the user must be assignet to group dialout and uucp.

I suggest to check also the right fro the files inside /etc/ppp other than the permission for the directory.

wvdial need to have permission also for file wvdial.conf in /etc directory.

Also with SuSE 6.3 yuo must have to upgrade wvdial, pppd and devs packages

Thanks for taking the time. I actually have worked on this for months and have removed Linux from my system. I'll get back to it one of these days.
Checking files within /etc/ppp is a good idea and will try to remember that for the future.
