Preventing duplicate records Excel 2003

I have a spreadsheet that one of the columns is P.O. numbers. I want to make sure as I am entering data that I do not key in the same P.O. number more than once. I looked at data filters with unique records but that did not look like it would help. What I would like to have it do, is when a duplicate is keyed a warning would show.
