primary network logon

By homeandofficeworks ·
Installed a network card and networking protocols (including Client for Microsoft Networks as the primaty network logon), but on startup the "Enter network password" window does not come up. The pc starts up and goes right to the Windows desktop. If you logoff windows, you then get prompted to log on to the network. Once logged on to the network, access to the other network resources become available. Any suggestions
as to why the user is not prompted to log on to the network at startup? Please advise.

1)In Control Panel click on Network properties select the Logon properties to force logon screen
2)open the registry and delete Key=Logon=(X) in the LOCALMACHINE\WINDOWS\NETWORK\CURRENTVERSION\CLIENT for Microsoft Network

There may be something you have forgotten, you can try going to Control Panel|Passwords, and click select the radio button for multi-user settings.
Hope this works, Maozy

No multi-user settings in place. I think answers 1 and 3 are more on track. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Here's your problem. You have the autologon problem. Sometimes when upgrading from win95 to 98 a paramter is created in the registry causing the machine to go right on past the logon. Open regedit and do a find for an entry called autologon. If found delete the entry. Backup your registry first.

If win95/98 do not detect network connection,
you just get the windows login box.
Check you nic for ligths, check nic cable for connection to jack or hub.
if win2000/nt check login box, make sure it is not just logging into the local box. if itis change it to the domain .
