Print Passwords

By DAKSPORT99 ·
I am looking for a way to require a password before someone can print. I work in a school and have a computer lab with 27 computers and want to prevent the students from just pressinf the print button and print. It is an elementary school grades K-5. Any ideas?

You should be able

to set up a print server, then require password access to that printer when you share it.

Since I'm a desktop kind of guy and haven't played with networks as an admin since NT, I'm not sure of the procedure. It should be on the Knowledgebase, or you could look in a security guide such as the O'Reilly Windows 2k3 Security Cookbook, (http://tinyurl.com/h5v7v).

Networked Printer

by eddieholman In reply to Print Passwords

Several solutions: Any printer server allows you to control printer access. If printer is served. Remove the everyone group and add the account to allow printing.
HP jetdirect printing allows restricting users. Finally, OS dependent: Select printer properties as Admin and remove the everyone group.
