Print sharing on Xp machine

By lquillen ·
I have a domain with a Win2K server that all clients login to. I have a new client running XP w/SP1. I am attempting to share a printer (connected locally to this machine via parallel). Other machines in our domain that are XP or 2000 can connectto the printer, but all the Win98 machines receive a message saying "\\machine name is not accessible. The logon server cannot be found."

Help!!

List the printer in the AD. Go to DHCP console, right click domain controller, click new, click printer, in the New Object-Printer Window, type the path to the share name in the XP machine. Or after installing the printer in the XP machine and sharing it, check the list in the directory option.

By the way, did you install the driver of the printer for Windows 98?. In addition, Try connecting to the printer from Win98 machine by typing in the run command \\XPMachine\ShareName

Thanks for your response!

1. When you say DHCP console, I assume you mean "AD Users & Computers" -- I have tried that and I get a message: "This printer cannot be published. To publish printers on Windows 2000 computers, use the Printers folder." I have tried that too with no success.
2. Yes, I have installed Win98 driver.
3. Yes, I have tried connecting with the command line too.

No success with all of the above.

If you have few WIN98 clients you can go to the individual machine go to add printer, network printer, then type the path \\XP\sharename.

Apparently, your Win98 Machines are not connecting to the domain. Can they connect to other shares in the domain?. Did you install WINS server in your network?
