Printer Connection problem in Vista

By tomjoseph ·
I am using Microsoft Vista Home Premium on an HP Laptop Pavilion dv6570. When I am trying to connect to a network printer it is giving error, "Cannot connect to printer. Error 0x00000043".

What does this mean?and how can I work around this to connect to the printer?

This is the meaning of the error code.
0x00000043 The network name cannot be found. ERROR_BAD_NET_NAME

Check the Printers Shared Name.
Check that you have privileges to access the Printer.

You are out of luck if you are trying to connect to a Domain Printer, only Vista Business and Ultimate can be used in that situation.

i take it the printer is on an IP ?
if so you need to do it manually, add printer, add ip port, type in the ip address, make sure install drivers is un ticked, you will need to download the driver from the manufactures web site, browse to the folder where you save the driver, install :)

I for got to mention that the vista is on a standalone Laptop and I am trying to connect to a HP Laserjet printer which is connected to a system running Windows XP in a Windows Domain. I was able to add it to other Vista Laptops and this is the first one I am facing a problem with.
