Printer Problems--I need HELP!

By deeda ·
I need some help on a printer problem i am having. I just added a HP Laserjet 2200 & a HP Colorjet 4500 to a Windows 95 computer. These printers are on a network and work with other computers just not with this one? When i printed the test page I got a page that says Windows95 Printer Test Page but the information in the body of the page is in garbage characters. I tried to find something on hp website but have not found anything yet!
Please email me immediately if you know a solutions!
Thanks

Check to ensure the printer driver you are using is correct for the version of windows you are running.

Sometimes if the printer driver files is not digitally signed by Microsoft you will get actual problems if one or more of the dependant files is corrupted.

deeda's printer problem

by susieb In reply to Printer Problems--I need ...

Hello Deeda,
I have had some problems running win 2000 on most machines with a few win 98's and 95's too.
You may need to increase the number of fonts that your 95 machine can utilise. If you right click in the blank area in the printers folder I think you can get more options. Another solution that may help is to load a 95 driver on your 95 machine and tell it that the printer is local not networked but map the drive to it.
I'm not sure these will work but when I was crashing through the bushes with my printer the 95's woke up to the printer when i told them it was local not a network printer.
Good luck.
susieb.

Deeda printer problems

While I don't personally know these particular HP printers as I stoped using any HP products a very long time ago I have had to install quite a few HP printers on customers computers that I didn't build and almost with out exception none of the HP printers that I've so far run across actually support Network printing capacity other than the business HP printers. What you have to do is to trick the computer that you are attempting to install the printers to into believing that these are not network printers but actually local printers.

So Map the drives of the computers that they are conected to and tick the reconect at logon box and then install the printer drivers on the mapped drives.

I don't know if it will work but it is worth atry.

Perhaps it's your OS

Are all of your other computers using Win95 and still connecting, or are they using a more recent version of Windows???

Windows 95 is an antiquated...ahem, LEGACY Operating system. And some of the system files needed to load your new printers just might not be available in Windows 95.

If the other computers are using Windows 95 and still connecting, then by all means, try the other suggestions, they all sound great!!! But if not.....

Thanks Much
Jpruitt

No need for insults

No need for insults there, jpruitt. There are those of us who, for whatever reason, choose not to "upgrade" to something else. Or perhaps we aren't able to "upgrade" for whatever reason.

Contribute some actual suggestion, not a condescending statement of how antiquated W95 is.

I fixed this problem by changing the font in Internet Explorer to be User Defined (which is in Internet Options)
Thanks everyone for all your help!!
