Printing Email with Lexmark Optra R+

By becky ·
I have a client who prints emails received in HTML and when printed it prints several lines of ??? then when it starts printing text it is garbled. This printer prints other email without a problem. The client uses outlook to receive mail form microsoft exchange. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Is a driver update needed?

Without clearer information about your network, I would an upgrade of the drivers would help. We use both NT and NetWare as well as HP, Lexmark, and Xerox printers. Most of our garbled printing issues result from older drivers.

This workstation uses Internet Explorer 5.5. Do you think that is causing the problem? I've tried upgrading drivers. That doesn't work. This workstation also uses the network Lexmark and receives the same results when printing EMAIL from Outlook. We use Netware and NT servers. There is no trouble printing docs or anything else. Just email in HTML format.

I had a similar problem under NT with an Optra E, Email's came out fine but Excel doc's didn't want to know - odd symbols etc.

The PC was using drivers from the Lexmark CD. As a temp fix I changed the drivers for Hewlett Packard LaserJet III from the NT CD and the Optra worked a treat. Some months later an upgrade came out and it fixed the problem. The latest Lexmark CD that I have is at version 4.20.

Best of Luck

The optra R series requires the exact drivers, we use these often, however these change with about every cd. I would suggest downloading the drivers for the Optra Standard (no optra setting) note if your using winnt, the correct drivers may actuallybe in your I386 directory already.
If the downloaded drivers don't work, find a Optra S series (make sure your using PS for a PS pringer, or the standard if your not using a ps Printer.) This is actually what this sounds like to me, when your trying to print anything that would normally print postscript, or vice versa on a printer that is not designed for that driver you will recieve junk on the print out. Verify if you have a PS printer or a Plus printer both will work to print but you WILL get errors. If you still can't print, the Newest IBM Duplex PS drivers are the closest on the Market to the Optra Series drivers by Lexmark. These will work, HP III , IV, V Si will also work but you will find that these also will print misc error char. when you try large

A driver update could well be required.
On the Lexmark website (http://www.lexmark.com/drivers/international.html), there are often what look like duplicate driver files, some called "Lexmark" and some called "Microsoft".
On my network (NT workstations, Novell LAN and ZENWorks), printer driver distribution fails if we use the Lexmark ones, but works every time with the "Microsoft" ones.

BTW, Optra R+ printers also work fine with HP LaserJet 4 drivers. If all else fails, try these!

CTRL | P
should bring up the Printer properties screen. Make sure your user chooses (among three options) to print the page as it appears.

If problem exists only for specified print device, try another (if you have another on the network). Narrow your troubleshooting down to a "Print device" problem, a "Printer" problem, or a source (intermet_print) problem

enjoy :)
