Problem copying WIN98 files to XP using CDs

by yarwak1 . Updated 21 years, 9 months ago

Having a problem copying data files from a WIN98 desktop to an XP laptop. Application CDs have no problem.

Desktop: WIN98SE, 1150 megahertz AMD Athlon XP, HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4120B [CD-ROM drive]using Roxio CD Creator 5 for initializing.

Laptop: XP-SP1,3000 megahertz AMD Athlon XP-M, Toshiba DVD-ROM SD R2512 using Sonic Record Now v6 for initializing.

Using: Memorex CD-R

Both systems successfully initialize CDs, however:

WIN98 to XP – XP recognizes CD as mounted, but Windows Explorer sees the CD as empty.

XP to WIN98 – WIN98 recognizes as mounted, Windows Explorer sees the XP files on the CD, lets me copy them to the HD, but will not let me copy a WIN98 file to the CD. It gives me a Windows Error Copying File message saying access denied that the CD is either full or write protected.

One site I went to suggested an MS patch for CD problems, but an attempt to install it produced a msg that the patch was already installed.

Advice would be appreciated….
