Problem installing printer on Vista

By mjdoko ·
I just recently bought a HP laptop with Vista Home Premium pre installed. When I tried installing my HP Lasserjet 3550 it reported an error "spooler application subsystem stopped working and was closed". Is it me that is doing something wrongly?

What did you use as Drivers to install onto Vista?

by OH Smeg In reply to Problem installing printe ...

If it was the supplied Drivers you most likely didn't have Vista Drivers but XP or 2003 Drivers.

To install this unit with Vista you need to download the Vista Drivers from here

Spooler Issue

by castro_mark_77 In reply to Problem installing printe ...

Hi,

I've had this issue before. Do the following.

Disconnect your local printer.

Locate and then expand the following registry key: To go into the registry --> Click on Start-->then enter "regedit" in the box provided.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers
The registry entries for the printer drivers that are installed on the computer are stored in the Version-x subkey or subkeys, where x is a number (typically 2 or 3).
9. Expand the Version-x subkey or subkeys, and then delete the printer driver entries. To do this, right-click each printer driver subkey, and then click Delete. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.

Once it is deleted, go into the control panel--> Administrative tools--> services

Look for Print spooler and start it.
Reconnect your printer. Add your printer manually and choose a driver that Vista has already installed for the printer.

If that doesn't work, then try these updates.

Just a warning here

by OH Smeg In reply to Spooler Issue

If you are going to attempt to edit the registry make sure that you have a backup of it before you start anything.

If you mess up you can rename the backup to be your replacement Registry File and keep going but if you don't have a backup you are stuck.
