Problem installing Red Hat 7.1 on laptop

by k_symons . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I have been trying unsuccessfully for several days to install Red Hat Linux 7.1 (download version) on a Gateway 9100 laptop. The installation appears to run OK until it is in the process of installing the Module packages. The
process always hangs (ie freezes my PC) when it has installed 197MB of packages.
It doesn’t matter what options I have chosen, it always freezes at 197MB installed; the module at which it freezes varies according to the options chosen.
My 9100 laptop has the C&T 65555 video driver, a 4GB HD, CDROM, Floppy and 80MB RAM. I use a Linksys PCCard combo NIC/56K modem, but have tried the install both with and without it inserted in the PC.

Any suggestions would be welcome. I have looked through the “linux on laptop” web site but have not found any articles that weer helpful on this issue.

Thanks
