Problem with Adobe Reader

On a win XP pro client Adobe 5.05 is installed. When you try and open a pdf the process starts but does not complete, the program hangs and shuts down displaying an “error report will be sent” screen. I disabled display pdf in browser and the same thing happens although on 1 occasion Adobe managed to open a pdf and another error message “a drawing error occured” was displayed.I have removed Adobe and reinstalled but the same errors occur.
