    problem with BIOS (may be)

    i have an acer 4020 laptop during updating to windows vista, at the first step at updating the bios it asked for restart and it performed it it shut down and it took too much time and i can’t see anything but nothing appears on the screen althoug it appears turned on i tried to restart it manually but still nothing, i don’t know what to do please help

      oh dear. did you try removing all power for several minutes?

      maybe it’s just ‘suspended’ but does sound like the bios got fried. i would go to the motherboard website and download the bios and try updating it again.

      I remember having similar problems a few years back moving some machines to XP. It turned out to be the video card driver. If memory serves me right I turned off the on-board video in BIOS, got the machine up and running with a “standard video” setting and then got hold of updated drivers for the card.
