PROBLEM WITH CDROM RECORDER

By edufor ·
MY PC SEES MY "HP CD WRITER 800+" AS A CDROM PLAYER, BUT WHEN I START HP SETUP PROGRAM, IT ANSWERS :"ASSIST.EXE HAS GENERATED ERRORS AND WILL BE CLOSED BY WINDOWS, YOU MUST RESTART THE PROGRAM".
THEN, IT SEEMS THE PC DIDN'T RECOGNISE THE WRITER AS IF IT WASN'T PLUGGED.
PC UNDER WINDOWS 2000 PRO

it is normal for the OS to see the CD writer as just a regular CD reader. Usually, CD writing programs like Nero or Adaptec do their own hardware identification, and that's where your writer would be appropriately be seen.

PS: I had HORROR stories when I tried HP CD writers - specially when I would like to keep the old CD reader as well ! My advice would be to return it and get another brand, if you can.
