Problem With Proxy over Routers (NT)

By cjw ·
I have a WAN with two sites, the servers are on one side along with a number of workstations and a number of workstations are on the other.
Side A (10.0.1.xxx)(Gateway 10.0.1.10)
Side B (10.0.2.xxx)(Gateway 10.0.2.10)
Now before dialing the internet on the RAS server it can be contacted from either side. When The Internet is authenticated and the IP addresses (Dynamic) are set, I can only contact site A.

When running IPconfig it shows the gateway as it is supposed to be but contact accross the gateway is not achievable without dropping the internet connection.

So somewhere along the way it is getting confused about which gateway is which, i.e. I think it is trying to contact site B over the internet gateway.

Odd one....any ideas?

Problem With Proxy over Routers (NT)

by mebudman In reply to Problem With Proxy over R ...

Let me see if this is correct. You have a multi-homed computer acting as a router, that or you only have a router and a dialout server.

You need to look at your routing tables.

On the router, you need these static routes 10.0.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 int 10.0.1.10
10.0.2.0 mask 255.255.255.0 int 10.0.2.10
0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 int 10.0.1.1 (this would be the server that has the dial out)
on all the computers their default gateway should be the router
subnet a default gateway=10.0.1.10
subnet b default gateway=10.0.2.10

Now if you have a server running dual nics controlling both subnets and doing the dialout--
on the properties for each of the nics remove the default gateway entry.

add the routes as stated above
nt syntax: route -p add 10.0.1.10 mask 255.255.255.0 10.0.1.10

the -p makes the routes permanent.
Then when dialing out the dialout ips will add a default gateway of 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 "dialout ip"

This should allow you to route happily.

Let me know if this helps.
