problem with setting gateway or to find

By g.burton ·
I have a mate that as linux using Red Hat and the server crashed and the gateway is reading 0.255.255.255, I have read in sa book that this should not be a good idea but could not find anything on how to change it.

Since the crash of the server we can telnet in to the network but if we try to log in at the username prompt does not work. Think it is to do with the gateway being 0.255.255.255 so on.

if anyone got any ideas please let me know

problem with setting gateway or to find

by Gregory Pleau In reply to problem with setting gate ...

I am a bit worried about the integrity of the server environment if a crash has occurred and suggest you grab the Redhat 7.1 upgrade and run through it, which will restore any corrupted packages to the system. Don't do this if it isn't your server to upgrade or if the system is mission critical.

The quick n'easy gateway fixes without the upgrade:

To change the network settings on Redhat:

Type "netcfg" at the bash prompt if you have XWindows,

Type "netconfig" if you do not have XWindows or

edit the ifcfg-eth0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
using vi or emacs

Good Luck
