Problem with Tape Drive in Windows XP

by mzarr01_comcast.net . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I have a Seagate tape drive that uses Travan NS (TR-5) cartridges on a Micron Millenia desktop with 256 MB RAM, 27 GB hard disk (9 GB free), and Windows XP Professional Operating System (file system is FAT32). I just upgraded to Windows XP Pro. When I tried to use Microsoft Backup, it recognizes the tape drive, but the menu option for erasing the tape is greyed out and the system finds insufficient room on the tape cartridge for new backup files. The tape drive is about 4 years old and Seagate’s partner website that handles tape drives and media does not have a Windows XP driver for the drive. Any suggestions as to how I could get this drive to work with this system?
