Thousands might have been already using Windows? Vista?, but our’s “still” on the testing phase for its final deployment across our organization. Not in a hurry, though as I recently came across another mumbling fact that Windows? Vista? – with all its glory (and hype), would be further extended for the mere need “compatibility” towards previous versions of its own kind.
Nonetheless I?m talking about is using Outlook? 2000 on Windows? Vista?. Other applications would be have issues ? major issues too, but I?m just concentrating with Outlook 2000.
You see, while crawling through countless sites online, I?ve noticed that there?s a lot of people out there having problems running Outlook? 2000 under Windows? Vista?. Just an FYI on the history of Outlook? 2000: released way back June 7, 1999 – Microsoft? Outlook? 2000 is a PIM (Personal Information Manager) that?s part of the Microsoft? Office suite. Everyone would agree that it?s used mostly as an e-mail application, but comes handy with calendar, task and contact management, note taking, a journal and web browsing.
Now going straight to the problem: after installing Outlook? 2000, the application would pop a message indicating a “WAB DLL” missing file at the very instance you tried to import or export data. What?s more annoying is that I tried to do the work around indicated in some forum (asking you to copy those “wab32.dll” and “wab32res.dll” files (located at C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYSTEM), then placing them to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and registering them after) but they didn?t work.
I took notice of the delay associated in opening Microsoft? Outlook? 2000, right after patching these files, where you have to click the [Next] button on a few windows before finally getting to the e-mail interface. Now back to those ?WAB? related files, “WAB DLL” is a Windows? Address Book-related file used by Microsoft? Outlook? Express, another Microsoft? e-mail/news client that came along with Windows? 98 up to Windows? XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). No mentioned about its presence on Windows? Vista?, neither any upgrade about it.
Microsoft’s current Outlook? release is Outlook? 2007. This is their currently mentioned “all version compatible release” for Windows? Vista?. Sure? Even other versions above Outlook? 2000 are failing.
