Problems with Critical Update Q810565

By ELFenker ·
I had installed the MS critcal update Q810565 but then had to do a system restore to a date previous to the update. Now my system is prompting me to do the update again, but everytime I try it fails.

My question is there a way to remove the update and then go back and reinstall it?

You can try downloading the file directly and then running from your computer.

(Hyperlinks Open in Internet Explorer Instead of in Default Browser or Help and Support Center)

I would recomend making another restore point before installing as you have done.

Hope this helps.

When I tried it I received an error message "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.Inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer." I checked and the Cryptographic service is running as a service. I even restarted it and tried again - no luck. Any other idea?

Go to your product (winXP pro/2k) site at microsoft and use the download link to browse available downloads. From there find the update and you should see a link on the top right corner of the page where you can download the full update rather than running it over the net. If it is not there, check for the update as a distribution update in the catalogue.

I tried what you suggested and it still failed with the message about the cryptograhic service. I checked my update history file and it shows that this update was successfully installed back on 19-Dec-02. I checked the event viewer and found theseentires regarding the crypt32 service -

"4/10/03 10:42:43 AM - Successful auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt>

ANy other ideas?
4/10/03 10:43:03 AM - Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list cab from: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: 0x5b4"

I finally figured this out on my own. I found a similar problem in the Knowledge Base (326815) and applied that solution and it resolved my problem.
