    Problems with laptop HDD

    Locked

    by greg.cotterell ·

I have an acer aspire 2010 laptop and recently had HDD issues. It was a 40gb 4500rpm hdd…these are not easy to obtain and I thought a little on the small side now soe I purchesed a samsung 80gb 5500rpm hdd. Bios recognises it, I use the acer reboot disks to upload the factory software onto the hdd thinking this will be great. Problem is not the system does not load and stays on black screen as if looking for information. I have removed the new hdd and tested it as an external hdd and find that the programs needed have been added to it and that it works fine. Where to next?? (I am using Windows xp pro

    thanks in advance

      Grab your old HDD

And look at the Pins on the back of the drive. Acer has a habit of fitting a jumper to two of the 4 pins not in use so you may need to pull the jumper off the old drive and fit it to the new drive.

Other than that I can’t think of any reason why it’s not working.

I would like to know if you ever figured this out. I also have an acer2010 and replaced the drive. Bios recognizes it and the drive is good, but it will not allow windows to boot off the cd, I get a non-emulation booting
Same thing as is happeneing to you
      Thanks
