I have many of users using HP Vectra VL400 Series Pentium III desktops running Windows NT 4 workstation SP5. They are quite good slim line desktops.
The only problem is this annoying little mouse problem.
Where when a user saves their work or click’s OK on a message box or whenever the HDD or CPU start doing it’s actions. The mouse jumps all over the screen and sometimes disappear and is uncontrollable. It takes almost a minute before I get control over the mouse (PS/2 Wheel Mouse HP). It looks like it is taking up CPU time.
This is only happening on the VL400 Series.
I have tried the following to try and resolve the problem;
– use the latest mouse drivers
– use generic mouse driver
– used a serial mouse
– installed IDE NT 4 driver for this model
– installed latest video driver
– created a new image from scratch
– increased mouse buffer from 64 to 800
Also when i check the event viewer on the System log.
I mostly get the following event ID 37 on Source: i8042prt
” bogus RESET was detected on the mouse device”
Have checked this error in Microsoft Technet and cannot find any solution or an answer to this problem.
It looks like the mouse buffer overflows maybe because it is not clearing it’s buffer correctly.
Can anyone help or give me a reason why this may be happening. I have already called HP Support and they don’t know anything about this problem.
