Public Folder Backup

By Mafig ·
In the organization where I work we are using MS Exchange 5.5 Public Folders with Outlook clients, and it is working ok. Users write - post - tasks in a public folder with no problem.
But I heard someone saying the Exchange Backup is not guaranteedmeaning if there's a problem with the server the public forders may be lost, even or because of replication with other Exchange servers in our network. Is this true? And if it's true, is there a better way of backingup the public folders?
Thanks

Public Folder Backup

I've done plenty of restores of exchange 5.5, and in everyone I restored the public folders. The public folders and the private store share the same log files. So they can only be restored together. As long as you use a reputable backup program with an exchange agent or MSbackup, you will be fine. Remember to write down your organization and site name. You'll need them for restores. Best backup procedures also include disabling circular logging, as this will allow you to restore the server, and with the log files(if they exist) to the exact time that the server died.

Also, never ever rely on your backup. Test your backups by restoring them to nonproduction servers. Last thing you want to find out when your exchange crashes is that you don't have a valid backup. I've been at clients that have gone thru this. It is not pretty.
