    Greetings,

I am not very proficient in the security of my laptop.
I have difficulties paying for internet service at my home, recently dropping the service.
I have been using the internet at a coffee shop recently.

My question is what settings should I have in place to make sure the private information on my laptop is secure?

My sincere thanks to those who can help me with this.

      That’s a big question.

I had this discussion with an avid Facebook user that couldn’t grasp what they did on Facebook was not private. Or what you have in your emails.

You could use a VPN (so many to choose from) but all that work is negated by using social media sites, emails and what else?

That helps, thank you. I do not use social media in any form.

Make a new local non-admin account on your laptop and login into that when using public internet. That way, all data in the account you normally use is inaccessible.

Since you’re on public Wi-Fi, prioritize security by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to encrypt your data traffic. Disable file sharing and keep your firewall enabled. Avoid logging into financial accounts or entering sensitive information on public Wi-Fi.
