I have been tackling the idea of switching to Linux as a main OS for a while now. I want to game mostly steam stuff and some emulation . I don’t have a great PC it’s very dated ( AM3+ MOBO) I wanted to know what’s a beginner friendly OS that would be good for gaming. Also a question about Linux is I’m worried about all the different versions and how reliable they devs are with updates. Windows I don’t need to worry about that. So what’s a good version that’s beginner friendly and frequently gets updated for gaming.

I don’t think any OS (not even Windows) is ever “updated for gaming”. If it runs “steam stuff and some emulation” it will be fine for you.
You’ll have to find out if it’s better (faster?) than Windows for those purposes.
