reading 4mm dat from sgi on windows nt4.

i have a windows nt4.0 system with a scsi
4mm dat tape drive with mks toolkit software.

is it possible to read a 4mm dat from a sgi
unix machine using tar command?

if so, how?

Not native to NT, no. There are some software and shareware products that may be able to help you. The fully licensed version of Winzip may. The Stuffit utility (from the Mac world) may. I used to have some utilities like that and seem to vaguely remember options for tar. If a web search for those shareware products does not produce results (try AOL software archives?), some cross platform back-up software vendors (Seagate, Legato) may have some answers. Don't know why you are trying to do this - have you considered installing SAMBA on the SGI, or using FTP, to get the needed files off the hard drive of the SGI??
