Rearranging pages in a long Word doc.

By lgsellers ·
Question: When working with long documents, is there an easy way to switch the pages around? For instance, changing the position of page 3 with page 10. Right now I would cut the page and past it. Is there another way?

The only way that I know of to improve your technique, would be to change the view to multiple pages so that you do not have to scroll up and down so much.

With a long document, you can edit it as a series of subdocuments, all tied to gether in a master document. Most people break up a long document with chapters, but if your pages are the best logical division, you could do it that way. Rearranging the document then involves only rearranging the links in the master document.

Not that I'm aware of if you are using a true cut ([Ctrl]+X)=Cut and [Ctrl+V]=Paste. Sorry

I have been authoring for years using Word.

One technique that works in some long document situations is to use Styles and then rearrange the page/section/chapter order in Outline View.

My answer is No but ... If you have lots of rearranging, might try one of the following:
1) starting at the top, select and cut the section you want to move, move the next section, paste, select pasted + new section, cut, repeat until you get all that is going to the new section, go there paste, repeat (I have read there is a way to select and apped to paste buffer but I don't remember how, if you can find that, it's much faster)
2) Open two documents, do similar but select, cut, paste from one to second
3) split your window, copy and paste section at a time (saves a bit of up/down).
4) probably ugly but, put section into a memo field with at sort tag, sort and expand (don't know if this is possible or worth the effort it if is).
5)if it is really complex, do a hard copy of what goes where and do some plans on 'eaiset' approach.
6) I think one of the above suggested multiple documents. If you make each page (or whatever makes a 'movable' section), a document, you can rearrange easily from a master document by select, cut, move, paste of the include object. The setup to do this will be a bit of work, but once done rearranging should be easy. Also, once you have done it this way, next time start out with that and it won't be as much of a task.

I do same similar in both word and text editors (except #4, if you put the text into an Access memo field with a sort tag. May loose formatting, bookmarks, etc. lo
